Workshop - Sunday 18th May, 2008 - 10am to 5pm

“Families (and how to survive them)”

Facilitated by Jill Reynolds & Bruce Greenhalgh

This workshop will focus on the family as the early arena in which each child creates his or her own personality. We will look at different factors within the family, such as atmosphere, myths, motifs and values, which form the backdrop for each unique creation. We will also discover how perceived position in the family, masculine protest and organ inferiority play a role. The workshop aims to provide a broad perspective by addressing the roles of grandparents and carers, and providing historic and multi-cultural elements. We will also look at different parenting styles and discuss issues such as natural and logical consequences as a form of discipline and Dreikurs’ mistaken goals of misbehaviour.

Throughout this experimental workshop we will also incorporate other important Adlerian ideas, such as that as humans we are socially embedded, that we have a bias in the way we see ourselves and our world, that our behaviour has purpose and a goal, and that we are whole and unique individuals demonstrating a particular pattern of life (lifestyle).
